I'm about 5'5, slim, short-waisted, with hips, 115 - 120 lb mature woman, sort of girlish, but not particularly toned or athletic. On days when I have a tummy, this dress still looks good, but you can definitely see the tummy. I wear a size 4 and always buy size S in this brand.It's so classic. I bought 3 - one for my drawer at the office, one for the closet at home, and one either on me or in the laundry room. So far, none is wearing out.UPDATE2016-09-20While looking for some more Kamali buys I thought I'd revisit and update my review from October 2014.I usually wear this dress only in fall, winter, and spring, so I'm looking forward to getting back in them! It is still perfect, being so basic, and wonderful to have one rolled up in my office for a sudden dressy engagement. I wear one of my three at least once a week in the 9-month season, and I am very much a tomboy, doing house and office repairs, cleaning, etc with my work / dress-up clothes on, but these dresses are still holding up; no special treatment required. Yes, the material is "thin", but after 2 years, and I'd guess about 12 - 30 washings each, they're still practically almost like new.Note: If you're shopping Kamali, be aware and look out for this: There are some simple Kamali dresses that say "clean-cut edges". While that may sound good (clean-cut sounds good, right?), it means that the material is not hemmed or faced - like at the armholes or neckline. This looks extraordinarily cheap, in my opinion. The fabric can curl, or it just looks like the garment was not finished! This dress is normal - not clean-cut, lol.When I ordered this dress the only available sizes were XS and M. I usually order a S but decided to take a chance and order the XS. The XS fit perfectly (a S would have been too large) on my 5'4" 100 lb frame. The dress contours the body wonderfully and hugs it in all the right places. The shirred waistline adds a level of forgiveness if your waist/tummy is a problem area for you. Due to the contouring and fabric of the dress, this is not going to work for every body type. The fabric has a nice feel and stretch to it and travels very well. I recently took a trip and it was folded and crammed into my suitcase. I was able to take it out and wear it right away with no wrinkles and no issues.Ok gals if you want a dress for every occasion this is it if you get the proper fit. I am 5ft. 5 1/2 in. tall,150lbs. pear shaped and carry weight in my hips and thighs. I am usually a size small on top and a large on the bottom and got the size large in this dress and for me the perfect fit. Their is a lot of stretch in this dress but that does not mean it should stretch real tight over your frame. Even if you think you do not need some kind of shaping garment with this dress do yourself a favor and wear one anyway. No matter how small you are, panty lines are never in fashion.I can't believe that this dress is almost $100. It's made of the same material as those slinky long black skirts of the early 2000's, and it is not flattering at all. There's the rouching (sp?), which is usually put on maternity clothing, so it accentuates your belly A LOT- pregnant or not. Even worse, the seams for the gathering of the rouching is right over the top of your hips- so if you didn't have love handles before, you have them now. It's a terribly designed dress for non-pregnant ladies, and WAY overpriced for the material and design. I don't think I can justify keeping it.It is good looking and fits well but the materials are cheap.It won't be your BEST dress, but because of the really wonderful cut, if you put it under a great sweater or jacketit truly passes for higher quality than it is - which is, in a way, just what the photograph promisesLOOKS better than it feelsNice basic black dress with long sleeves. I'm 5'9" 124 lbs and purchased a medium. Fit is great but really hugs the body.I ordered two dresses from this ocnmpany: One was a short sleeve draped dress and this one.The size of the fraped one was perfect but this one was very tight on. I had to exchange it for a bigger size.The new size (small) was just perfect and very sexy looking. Beautiful material, easy to wear day and evening.Im 5'9 and 165lbs i bought an extra large and it was too big almost baggy through my hits but fit well in my chest (36dd) and shoulders. Defiantly would b great on someone curvy. I am more drumstick shaped gal, im returning it.
